What Are Some Colleges in or Near Philadelphia?

I'm in the process of expanding my college list and Philly has caught my attention. I know there are some great schools like UPenn and Drexel, but I’d love to hear about other colleges in or near Philadelphia. I'm looking for a mix of good academic programs and a vibrant student life. Any advice from those who know the area would be really helpful.

Sure! Philly indeed boasts a wide range of higher education institutions. Besides the famous names University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) and Drexel University, there are other worthy contenders within this city.

Temple University, for instance, is a comprehensive public research university positioned in the center of the city. It's particularly noted for programs in fields like architecture, business, and communications. Its campus environment is buzzing with activities, with numerous clubs and organizations to participate in.

Saint Joseph's University is another Philadelphia-based institution, established by the Jesuit order. It's renowned for excellence in business, arts and sciences, and is home to a lively campus environment with a commitment to service and social justice.

If you're interested in art, the University of the Arts could be a potential fit, offering a diverse range of creative disciplines in the heart of downtown Philly. It's considered one of the top art and design colleges in the US.

As for colleges close to Philadelphia, you may want to consider Villanova University. Villanova is a private Catholic university nestled in a suburb, about 12 miles from Philly. It's well-regarded for its engineering and business programs and complements its academics with a range of student activities, including a robust athletics program.

Haverford College is located in Haverford, a suburb of Philadelphia. It's a small liberal arts college that's part of the Tri-College Consortium with Bryn Mawr College and Swarthmore College, allowing students to take classes at any of these schools.

Each of these institutions varies in size, program offerings, and campus environment, so I would recommend exploring their individual websites for more information. It's important to gauge how well the school aligns with your academic and social preferences when choosing which to apply to.
