Scholarships available in Las Vegas, NV for high school students?

I'm currently a high school junior living in Las Vegas, NV, and I'm trying to get a head start on my scholarship applications. Does anyone know of any local scholarships specific to Las Vegas or Nevada in general? I'm interested in both merit-based and need-based options, so any recommendations are welcome. How did other Vegas students find scholarships?

There are quite a few local scholarships in Las Vegas and Nevada that you might find useful for your college journey. Here are a few options you may want to explore:

1. Nevada Promise Scholarship: This last-dollar scholarship covers the remaining balance of eligible tuition, fees and other mandatory costs not covered by federal and state aid for eligible students at Nevada's community colleges.

2. Public Education Foundation Scholarships: The Foundation offers over 150 scholarships for students who reside in Southern Nevada, attend a public or charter school in Southern Nevada, and plan to attend a Nevada college or university.

3. Nevada High School Rodeo Association Scholarship: This is available to members of the Association who have participated in rodeo events and plan to attend a college, university or vocational school.

4. Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Millennium Scholarship: This is a highly competitive scholarship for students pursuing a degree in education.

5. Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship Program: This scholarship is merit-based and is accessible to eligible Nevada high school graduates who pursue post-secondary education within Nevada.

6. The Orthodontic Scholarship Program (from Hansen Orthodontics): This scholarship is open to Las Vegas residents under age of 21 and can be used at any accredited institution.

When it comes to finding these scholarships, other students have reported success by leveraging their local community resources. Speak with your high school guidance counselor, they often have a wealth of information about local scholarships available. The school district website and local community foundations are also great resources to find such scholarships. Remember, every bit helps, so it's worth investing some time and effort into the application process. Good luck!
