Are there notable school scholarships to apply for in 2024?

As I’m preparing for college, I’m trying to figure out which scholarships I should prioritize applying for in 2024. There's a lot of information out there, but it can be overwhelming. What are some of the prominent scholarships or lesser-known ones that are worth checking out this year? I'm interested in anything from national scholarships to local awards, and could really use some recommendations on where to start!

There are numerous scholarships available and it's great that you're thinking ahead about how to prioritize your applications.

One of the major national scholarships you should definitely consider is the Coca-Cola Scholars Program. This scholarship is awarded to 150 high school seniors each year, and each recipient receives $20,000 for their college education.

Another large-scale scholarship is the Gates Scholarship, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This scholarship covers the full cost of attendance, not covered by other financial aid, for first-generation, low-income students.

On a slightly smaller scale, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation offers the Cooke College Scholarship Program, which provides up to $40,000 per year for four years of undergraduate study to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need.

The Burger King Scholars Program is another good one to consider. This program awards scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $60,000, and the scholarship is open to all high school seniors in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

Additionally, keep your eyes open for local clubs and organizations that offer scholarships. Often, these are less competitive since they're only open to residents of a certain area. You may find scholarships from organizations like the Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, or local businesses and non-profits.

Also, don't forget to check with your future college. Many institutions offer scholarships exclusively for their own students, and some may be based on criteria other than need or merit, like intended major or participation in specific clubs or activities.

Remember that applying for scholarships can be a numbers game and each little bit counts. Try your best to tailor each application or essay to the specific scholarship you're applying for, and most importantly, don't give up if you don't win right away. Good luck!
