Finding scholarships for college in 2023?

I'm getting ready to apply to colleges, and I really want to find as many scholarship opportunities as possible for 2023. I've heard about a few sites and databases, but I'm unsure which are the best places to start. Are there any tips or resources you recommend that have been helpful for finding scholarships?

Also, should I focus more on general scholarships or those specific to my intended major or demographic group? I want to make sure I'm exploring every possibility to help fund my education, so any guidance would be amazing!

When hunting for scholarships, there's a wide variety of resources you can utilize effectively. A few widely trusted scholarship databases include Fastweb, Scholarships.com, and Cappex. They provide a wide selection of scholarships with varying eligibility requirements, making them a great starting point.

In regards to your question about whether to focus on general scholarships or those specific to your intended major or group, my recommendation would be both. The more specific the criteria, the fewer applicants, and often the better your chances. So look into scholarships that relate to your intended major, as well as those linked to your community service, hobbies, or demographic.

However, don't neglect the general scholarships. These can offer larger potential rewards, and the requirements are often broad enough that many students can apply. Although these scholarships might have more competition, they can still be worth applying for.

One pro tip is to consider 'celebrating your oddballs'. Searching for scholarships that are offbeat, unique, or have less competition is also a smart strategy. It might be a scholarship for left-handed students, or something for people who can make a prom dress out of duct tape!

You should also look for local scholarships. There are often less applicants for these, and as such may be less competitive. Check your local public library, high school counseling center, or community center, or even businesses in your area.

Remember to always apply to as many scholarships as possible and treat it like a part-time job. Keep an eye on deadlines, and be sure to proofread all of your applications. Good luck!
