Criteria for Penn State out of state scholarships

I'm currently researching scholarships for Penn State, but as an out-of-state student, I know things might be a bit different. Are there scholarships specifically for students coming from outside Pennsylvania? If anyone has experience with these, what criteria did you meet, or what suggestions would you give to increase the likelihood of receiving one? Anything specific Penn State looks for?

Penn State offers a variety of scholarships for out-of-state students. In fact, several scholarships are not based on residency status and are available to all students, including the Provost's Award and Bunton-Waller Scholarships. These scholarships are typically merit-based and depend on your academic achievements, like your high school GPA and SAT or ACT scores (if you choose to submit them).

The Provost's Award is a merit-based scholarship designed specifically for high-achieving students. The amount of these awards can vary and they're renewable for up to 8 semesters. If you are eligible to receive the award, you will hear back sometime between late December and early January.

The Bunton-Waller Scholarship is both merit and need-based. You need to have strong academic credentials and must also demonstrate financial need, as determined by completing the FAFSA. This scholarship also requires a diverse perspective, whether that's due to racial, ethnic, geographic, or any other factors that contribute to a diverse student body.

To increase your chances of receiving a scholarship, ensure that your application highlights your academic achievements and the unique perspectives you can bring to Penn State's campus. Showcasing your leadership experiences, involvement in community service, or participation in extracurricular activities can also strengthen your application.

Additionally, make sure to file your FAFSA as early as possible. Some grants are first-come, first-served, and by submitting earlier you have a higher chance of being able to demonstrate your financial need effectively. Also, keep in mind that the priority application deadline is typically November 30th, so make sure to complete your application by then for the best shot at scholarships.

However, it's suggested to reach out to Penn State's office of student aid or office of admissions for the most accurate and up-to-date information, as criteria may vary across scholarships and might change from year to year.
