What to Do If You Get a 2 on an AP Exam?

I got a 2 on one of my AP exams... feeling pretty bummed about it. Any advice on what steps to take next? Should I retake it or just move on?

It's completely understandable to feel disappointed with a score that didn't meet your expectations. However, it's important to remember that one score doesn't define your academic abilities or potential.

While AP scores can be a great way to earn college credit, they're typically not a major factor in the admissions process. Instead, colleges are more interested in the rigor of the classes you've taken and the grades you've earned in those courses. If the subject is important to you or relevant to your intended college major, you could consider retaking the course or self-studying and then taking the exam again next year. Otherwise, focusing on your current courses and maintaining strong grades is a great way to move forward.

Additionally, you can compensate by excelling in other areas of your application, such as your essays, extracurricular involvement, and other AP courses. Lastly, not all colleges require you to submit every AP score, so you have the option not to report this score when you apply. Instead, focus on showcasing your strengths and continuing to challenge yourself academically. Remember, resilience is a trait that colleges admire, and how you recover from setbacks can be as important as the successes you achieve.
