What scholarships are available for immigrants in 2023?

As an immigrant student trying to plan for college, I'm really interested in finding scholarships that cater specifically to immigrant backgrounds for the 2023-2024 academic year. I know there are lots of options out there, but it's a bit challenging to find ones that align with my circumstances. Has anyone had success with certain scholarships or organizations that support immigrant students? Any advice on where to start my search or tips for the application process would be super helpful!

There are certainly scholarships out there for immigrant students and navigating the list can be a bit challenging to start, but I'm here to help! In 2023, several organizations continued to offer scholarships specifically for immigrant students such as:

1. TheDream.US National Scholarship: This program lends financial support to high school graduates who are DREAMers, having DACA or TPS status, to pursue a career relevant to their course of study.

2. The Ascend Educational Fund awards scholarships to immigrant students and children of immigrants who are graduating from a New York City high school, offering from $2,500 to $20,000 payable over four years, depending on the financial need.

3. The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans: This award offers up to $90,000 towards education for immigrants or children of immigrants. They are looking for immigrants and children of immigrants who are ready to make a significant contribution to US society, culture, or their academic fields.

4. The Golden Door Scholars program: This scholarship features more extensive tuition support for DACA recipients or other high-performing students with uncertain status.

Now, as it applies to the application process, it often differs between scholarships. However, it's a general rule to first ensure you meet all the eligibility criteria before applying. Begin by preparing a strong personal statement telling your story in an authentic and impactful way, clearly conveying how your immigration experience has shaped who you are and your future goals. Gather all the necessary documents (transcripts, letters of recommendation, proof of immigration status) and ensure to meet all the deadlines.

Also, don't limit yourself to these. There are plenty of other scholarships that are not restricted to citizens - you just have to find them! Ensure to explore different scholarship databases, and remember to apply to as many scholarships as possible to increase your chances. It can be quite a task, but the effort can pay off significantly. I wish you all the best in your scholarship search!
