What are the ASU Merit Scholarship Requirements?

Hey, I'm considering applying to Arizona State University, and I heard they offer merit scholarships. I'm curious about what the requirements are to qualify for these scholarships. Do they focus mostly on GPA and test scores, or are there other factors like extracurricular activities and leadership roles?

If anyone has experience or advice on applying for merit scholarships at ASU, I'd love to hear from you. Just trying to get a sense of what I should focus on before I submit my application!

Arizona State University (ASU) does indeed offer various merit scholarships with different requirements, and they usually base these on both academic performance and holistic characteristics. For example, the President's Award, provost's, Dean's Award, and University Award are granted to non-residents of Arizona based on a combination of GPA, SAT/ACT scores, and class rank. However, the ASU Leadership Scholarship Program focuses more on leadership and involvement in the community. This program recognizes outstanding high school seniors who have achieved excellence in leadership and service.

Additionally, the ASU New American University Scholarship is a merit-based award for Arizona residents, given based on high school GPA and test scores. ASU may award this scholarship to extremely high-performing in-state students.

Other than these, there are the Obama Scholars Program and the Flinn Scholarship which are more holistic, looking at leadership qualities, community service, extracurricular activities, as well as academic achievements.

Please also keep in mind that for many of these scholarships, ASU recommends that students apply for admission by their priority admission application deadline, usually on or around November 1, to have the best chance of receiving merit aid.

Remember that the best approach is to consistently perform well academically while demonstrating leadership and commitment in your extracurricular activities. I hope this information is helpful and best of luck with your application process!
