Studying kinesiology at Arizona State University

I'm thinking about majoring in kinesiology and ASU is one of the schools I'm considering. Does anyone know how strong the kinesiology program is at Arizona State University? I’m curious about the available facilities, faculty support, and internship opportunities that might help in my future career in sports medicine or physical therapy. Is the campus environment supportive for science students in general?

Arizona State University (ASU) indeed has a solid kinesiology program, which is housed within the College of Health Solutions. It focuses on teaching students about the biological, clinical, psycho-social and behavioral aspects of physical activity. The coursework is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of movements at all stages of life, relevant for careers in sports medicine or physical therapy.

In terms of facilities, ASU has excellent resources to enrich your studies. The College of Health Solutions houses numerous labs where students can get invaluable hands-on experience. These include the Clinical Exercise Science Lab, the Exercise & Wellness Lab, and the Motor Control Lab, among others. These labs play an important role in offering students real-life experiences where they can put their coursework into practice.

When it comes to faculty support, ASU makes a major commitment to student success, offering access to dedicated faculty, advisors, and other resources. The College of Health Solutions has an array of experienced faculty members who are experts in their respective fields and are often involved in leading-edge research, which offers a great platform for learning.

The university also provides several opportunities to participate in internships and clinical work experiences. Based on anecdotal experiences, many students have secured internships in professional sports organizations, healthcare facilities, and physical therapy clinics. This hands-on experience can give you a significant boost when applying for jobs or post-graduate programs.

As for the campus environment, ASU is quite supportive of science students. Being a large university, there's a diversity of students from various majors, providing a rich interdisciplinary environment conducive for learning.

However, keep in mind that while these resources are available, it's up to you to make the most of them. Engage with faculty members, participate in labs and internships, and seek out assistance in your coursework when needed. It's through active participation that you'll be able to hugely benefit from the resources provided.
