Best colleges to study in New York?

New York has always fascinated me, and I'm thinking about applying to colleges there. I'd love opinions on which colleges in New York are considered the best, especially for a student who's interested in majoring in something like communications or political science. I'm looking for a school with strong academic programs but also a vibrant campus life. Does anyone have any schools they can suggest or experiences they can share?

In New York, you're spoiled for choice when it comes to higher education institutions. For communications and political science, a few standout options come to mind right away.

Columbia University, located in upper Manhattan, is a member of the Ivy League and boasts strong programs across disciplines. Its political science and communications programs rank highly. Campus life at Columbia is unique, in that you'd have Morningside Heights as your campus and Manhattan as your extended playground.

New York University (NYU) in downtown Manhattan is another great choice. NYU’s complex of buildings spread throughout lower Manhattan, and you're likely to be living and studying amidst the buzz of the city. Their Media, Culture, and Communication major within the Steinhardt School is well reputed and could be a perfect match for your interests. Additionally, studying political science in NYU could open up opportunities in internships related to government and public policy that NYC offers.

Upstate, there's Cornell University in Ithaca. Although it's not in NYC, it offers the strength of an Ivy League education and a stunning campus. They have an impressive Government program and their Communication Department offers innovative interdisciplinary work.

Apart from these, Fordham University and Syracuse University further upstate are worth looking into, both of which have solid programs in the areas of your interest. Syracuse, in particular, has the renowned S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Just remember, when choosing, to consider the size and location of the institution, as well as the specific courses and opportunities (like internships and study abroad programs) that each university's program offers.
