Can you get scholarships for playing D2 soccer?

I'm a high school junior thinking about playing soccer in college, and I'm wondering if there are any scholarships available for Division 2 soccer players. I've been playing for years, and I think I could make a good addition to a college team. Does anyone know how common it is for D2 schools to offer athletic scholarships, or how competitive the process might be? I'm trying to gauge what opportunities I might have to help with tuition. Any advice from athletes who've been through the process would be appreciated!

Yes, Division II schools do offer athletic scholarships, including for soccer! Partial scholarships are more typical - the full-ride scholarships student-athletes often receive at DI institutions are less common. However, don't discount the value of a partial scholarship, which can still make a big dent in your college costs.

The competitiveness of these scholarships can vary based on factors like the reputation of the school's program, the coaches' interest in you as a player, the team's needs for specific positions, and more.

To increase your chances, the important thing is to start the recruitment process early. That often means reaching out to college coaches, going to camps or showcases, and possibly creating a highlight reel. Starting in your junior year is a good idea, although do be aware there are restrictions on when a coach can contact you.

Consider also applying for academic scholarships and other types of financial aid to supplement any athletic scholarships you may receive. Always keep your academics strong, to increase your chances of receiving other scholarships, and to maintain your eligibility for soccer, as schools typically have a minimum GPA requirement for athletes.

Good luck with your recruitment process!
