How can I edit my FAFSA application?

I submitted my FAFSA a little while ago, but I realized that I made a mistake in some of the information I provided. I'm worried this might affect my potential financial aid package. Is there a way to go back and edit the information on my FAFSA after I've already submitted it? Also, if I do make changes, how long will it take for them to update the system? I'd appreciate any advice on this.

Yes, it's possible to make changes to your FAFSA after you've submitted it. You'll need to follow these steps to make revisions:

1. Start by going to the FAFSA website.

2. Log in using your FSA ID.

3. On the "My FAFSA" page, select the option for “Make FAFSA Corrections”.

4. Navigate to the section that contains the mistake and make the necessary adjustments.

5. Don’t forget to sign and resubmit your FAFSA after making the changes.

The U.S. Department of Education will process your changes within 3-5 days. After this is done, your updated information will be automatically sent to the universities you listed on your FAFSA.

Keep in mind that making changes to your FAFSA might alter your Student Aid Index (SAI), especially if you edited data related to your finances. It's important to keep this in mind because changes in your SAI will modify your eligibility for federal student aid.

Also, if you've already been awarded a financial aid package from a school, contact their financial aid office as soon as you can to make them aware of your FAFSA corrections. They may need to adjust your aid package based on the new information.
