How much emphasis do colleges place on SAT scores now?

Hey everyone! So I stumbled upon some old info about a president's SAT scores and got curious. I know those might've been pretty important once, but are colleges still heavily weighing SAT scores today, like how crucial is a high SAT score in the current admissions climate?

SAT scores can certainly play a notable role in college admissions, but their importance has evolved. Many schools are moving towards test-optional policies, especially since 2020, and these policies have been extended at numerous institutions. However, if a college does require standardized test scores, or you choose to submit them, they can be a significant factor, especially at more competitive colleges where they look for strong indicators of academic readiness.

If you choose to submit your scores, or are applying to a school that still requires them, a high SAT score can bolster your application. It can also serve as a counterbalance if other areas are slightly weaker. For schools that are test-optional, focus on ensuring the rest of your application is as strong as possible. Colleges look for a strong academic record, meaningful extracurricular involvement, and compelling essays. Especially in the absence of test scores, these elements will carry more weight in the review process.
