Best time to take the SAT for juniors?

Hello! I'm curious about when juniors usually take the SAT. Is it better to take it earlier in the school year or wait until you're further along in your prep? I'm balancing sports and a couple of AP classes, so scheduling is kind of tricky. Some of my friends are planning to take it in March, but others are waiting until May or even the fall of senior year. Would love to hear about what worked for you or if you regretted not taking it earlier!

Finding the best time to take the SAT often depends on the individual student's schedule and preparation. Many juniors opt to take the SAT in the spring of their junior year, around March or May. This timing allows for a solid foundation from coursework as well as ample preparation time.

You mentioned that you're balancing a busy schedule with sports and AP classes. If your spring is particularly busy due to sports or intense studying for AP exams, you might want to consider waiting until June to take the SAT. This would allow you more focused time to prepare for the SAT after your AP exams are over.

Alternatively, taking the SAT in the fall of your senior year can also work. While this might seem late to some, rest assured many colleges accept scores from the fall of senior year for regular decision applications. Just keep in mind that this timing may delay your college application process slightly, and it leaves less time for retakes in case your initial SAT score is not what you expected.

Overall, the most important aspect is ensuring you give yourself enough time for comprehensive preparation. Remember that you aren't restricted to taking the SAT only once. Many students take it multiple times in order to achieve their best possible score. Good luck with your preparations!
