Is it possible to redo my FAFSA if I've made a mistake?

I was filling out my FAFSA application and I think I might have messed up some information. Is there any way to go back and redo or correct my FAFSA after it's been submitted? I'm concerned that any errors could impact my financial aid package, and I want to make sure everything is accurate. If anyone knows how this works, I'd appreciate some guidance!

Absolutely, you can definitely make corrections to your submitted FAFSA if you've made some errors. To do so:

1. Go to the FAFSA website and log in.

2. On the "My FAFSA" page, click the "Make FAFSA Corrections" link.

3. Create a save key. The save key is a temporary password that lets you return and make corrections to your FAFSA.

4. Change your information. Double-check each section to ensure everything is correct.

5. You'll then need to sign and submit the corrections.

Keep in mind, it can take around three to five days for the corrections to process. After that, your new Student Aid Report (SAR) will be sent to you, which will show all the changes. Your updated information will also be sent to your school's financial aid office.

Remember, it's crucial to give the most accurate information on your FAFSA, as the Student Aid Index (SAI), which is used to determine your financial aid eligibility, is based on the information you provide on the FAFSA.

Just to note, if the mistake was on your income, and you used IRS Data Retrieval Tool, it usually pulls the correct information directly from your tax return. But if you manually entered it and made a mistake, you can follow the steps I provided to correct it.

In summary, there's no need to worry! The FAFSA is designed to allow for changes and corrections.
