Assistance with FAFSA Parent Sign Process

I'm trying to complete my FAFSA, but I'm getting stuck on the parent signature part. My parents aren't very tech-savvy, and they're having trouble signing electronically. Could someone explain the steps for signing electronically, or if there's an alternative method that might be easier for them? Any help to make this process less frustrating would be amazing!

Absolutely! The parent signature on the FAFSA can indeed be a tricky step. Keep in mind that the parent signature is required to authenticate and submit the FAFSA. If your parents are not comfortable electronically signing their FSA ID due to lack of technological knowledge, there is an alternative.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to sign your FAFSA with a signature page:

1. At the end of your FASFA form, you'll be given the option of signing with an FSA ID or other options.

2. Select "Other options to sign and submit."

3. Choose "Print a signature page" and then click "Submit."

4. Then, after printing this page, your parent(s) can sign it.

Once the signature is done, mail the page to the address listed on the signature page. Please do note that it may take up to 3 weeks to process the signature this way. The FAFSA is not considered completed until it is signed.

Optionally, you could also guide your parents through creating an FSA ID and then using that to sign electronically. Understandably this could be more daunting if they're not used to technology. However, the processing time is significantly quicker than mailing in a printed signature.

One tip when going this route: write down, in a safe place, the email, user name, and password created. This FSA ID is not just for this year's FAFSA; it will also be the electronic signature for FAFSA in the future years you apply.

Hopefully, this clears up the process a bit! However, each family's circumstances differ, and there might be additional details concerning your situation that these steps don't address. So, don't hesitate to reach out if more questions arise.
