Where to find scholarships for college undergraduates?

I'm a high school junior getting ready for college applications, and I'm curious about finding scholarships that specifically target college undergraduates. I know there are many scholarships out there, but it feels overwhelming to sort through them all. Can anyone give advice on the best places to look or any specific scholarships that are pretty popular? Any tips on application strategies would be great too!

There are numerous resources for discovering scholarships aimed at undergraduate students. While many people start with a quick online search, you may wish to check out resources such as FastWeb, Scholarship America, or the U.S. Department of Labor's free scholarship search tool. Furthermore, some colleges and universities offer scholarships for undergraduates, so I recommend looking into each school's financial aid, scholarship, and grants page.

While you're doing that, don't overlook local opportunities in your community. Many local businesses, non-profit organizations, or even your high school might offer scholarships for local students.

As for specific scholarships, for undergraduate students one of the most well-known is the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship, which recognizes high school seniors who have demonstrated leadership and service. Also, the Dell Scholars Program awards students who demonstrate a desire and ability to overcome barriers and achieve their goals.

When it comes to application strategies, be proactive and organized. Begin your research early and keep track of all relevant deadlines. Be thorough in filling out your application and approach the process as you would a job application - accuracy, completeness, and presentation matter. Resist the urge to apply to every scholarship you come across. Instead, target those scholarships that you are most suitable for - this will increase your chances of success and cut down on time spent applying.

Next, if an essay is needed, make sure it tells a compelling story. Remember, real-life personal experiences often make the most compelling stories. Show your passion, grit, determination, or how you've overcame challenges. These are the things scholarship committees love to see.

Lastly, remember that every bit helps, so don't overlook lesser-known, smaller scholarships. They can add up and there is often less competition for these than for larger, national scholarships. Good luck on your scholarship hunt.
