What are the biggest university campuses in America?

I'm curious about which universities have the largest campuses in the U.S. Does a bigger campus usually mean more resources and opportunities for students? I've heard that schools like Texas A&M and the University of Florida have really large campuses, but I'm not sure if bigger always means better. Can anyone share their experiences or insights? I'm trying to decide if the campus size should be a significant factor in my college decision-making process.

Defining the "biggest" university campuses can be done from different perspectives. It can be the campus with the most acreage, or it can be the school with the largest student population. From the perspective of acreage, Berry College in Georgia holds the record for the largest campus in America with over 27,000 acres. However, when you're thinking about large state universities, Arizona State University (Tempe campus) is expansive with more than 660 acres, and Texas A&M spans more than 5,000 acres.

In terms of student size, the University of Central Florida has one of the largest undergraduate student populations, with tens of thousands of students attending.

These large campuses often do offer more resources - they may have more research facilities, a larger variety of academic departments, and more extracurricular opportunities simply due to their size. They might also have more housing options and campus facilities, like dining halls and fitness centers.

But a larger campus doesn't always mean it's better. It really depends on what you're looking for in a college experience. Some students prefer smaller campuses because they offer a more tight-knit community and smaller class sizes. On the other hand, some students are drawn to the diversity and breadth of opportunities a larger campus can provide.

In the end, the best campus size is highly personal. It's important to take factors like student-to-faculty ratio, availability of resources, and personal comfort into consideration when choosing a school, rather than purely looking at size. Consider visiting these campuses (physically or virtually) to get a sense of what size feels right for you.
