Are there any scholarships for mixed race students like myself?

Hey everyone, I'm a high school junior, and as someone who identifies as mixed race, I'm curious if there are scholarships out there that I should be looking into. I've heard that there might be opportunities that consider diversity and mixed heritage as part of their criteria. I'm really interested in learning about any scholarships that recognize this aspect of identity or are specifically aimed at promoting diversity on campuses. Any tips or resources would be super helpful, thanks!

Absolutely, there are many scholarships out there aimed at promoting diversity and recognizing multicultural heritage. Keep in mind, however, that scholarships are not one-size-fits-all and can have varying requirements or criteria.

One notable scholarship opportunity is The Association of Multiethnic Americans (AMEA) Scholarship. AMEA offers scholarships for high school seniors and college students who are engaged in activities promoting awareness and support of multiethnic/cultural issues.

The Ascend National Scholarship also looks at diversity, including mixed race students. This scholarship is merit-based and is open to undergraduate students who have demonstrated outstanding educational and leadership achievements.

Likewise, the National Society of High School Scholars Foundation (NSHSS Foundation) also offers various scholarships that emphasize diversity and multiculturalism.

Keep in mind that many universities also promote diversity through their own individual scholarship programs. You might want to check out specific colleges' financial aid pages to see if they have diversity scholarships.

Also, do remember that on most scholarship search platforms like Appily or FastWeb, you can sort and filter scholarships based on this criterion. So, it can be helpful to have a profile set up on these resources, which can help align you with scholarships tailored to your diverse background and other unique characteristics.

One final piece of advice: don't limit yourself to just diversity-based scholarships. Explore all potential avenues of financial aid. There are numerous scholarships out there based on academic merits, leadership skills, and various other talents/interests, which you could very well be eligible for. Remember, every little bit counts! Good luck.
