What are some good universities in Pennsylvania?

I'm currently a high school junior looking into colleges, and I've been thinking about staying on the East Coast. I've heard that Pennsylvania has some great universities, but I'm not sure which ones should be on my radar. I'm interested in schools with strong programs in science and engineering, but I'm also considering a well-rounded college experience. Can anyone suggest good universities in Pennsylvania that I should consider applying to? Any tips on what these schools are known for or the campus vibes would be awesome!

Sure, happy to help with that! Pennsylvania is home to many top-tier schools that are strong in the sciences and engineering and also offer a well-rounded education.

The University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) is an Ivy League institution with a highly regarded School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. UPenn is known for its collaborative culture and strong interdisciplinary opportunities. Its campus is in the heart of Philadelphia, giving students access to an active, vibrant city lifestyle.

Carnegie Mellon University is another great choice, especially known for its College of Engineering. It offers an incredible balance of rigor, innovation, and interdisciplinary work. However, it's worth noting that the atmosphere at Carnegie Mellon is often described as rigorous and competitive.

Lehigh University also has an excellent P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science and the environment is often characterized as collaborative and close-knit. The campus is located in Bethlehem, PA, a smaller city that offers a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere.

Penn State University is another option, with its College of Engineering consistently ranked among the top in the nation. Penn State has a spirited campus culture with a strong emphasis on athletics and student involvement.

Lastly, Bucknell University, a liberal arts school, has a strong College of Engineering. The campus offers a quintessential college experience with Greek life, school spirit, and an array of activities and clubs. Here, you get the balance of a liberal arts education with a high-quality engineering program.

Remember, it's not just about rankings, but also about fit. Visit these campuses if you can, attend virtual tours and information sessions, talk to current students, and see where you feel comfortable and excited. That "gut feeling" is really important in the college decision-making process. Good luck with your search!
