Colleges and Universities in NH: Where Should I Apply?

I'm considering applying to colleges in New Hampshire and would love some insights on the best options there. I'm especially interested in liberal arts programs. Any recommendations or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

When you bring up New Hampshire, many think about Dartmouth College right away — one of the eight renowned Ivy League schools. Dartmouth has a strong emphasis on liberal arts and undergraduate education. What makes it unique is the "D-Plan" system, which operates on a quarter-year basis and allows students to choose when they want to go on off-terms, a flexibility not often found elsewhere. The school is also known for its close-knit community and beautiful location, as it's placed right in the heart of the Upper Valley.

Among other colleges in New Hampshire, you might also look into Keene State College. While Keene State is more known for education and safety programs, they do have a range of liberal arts degrees as well. Their location gives students opportunities to explore the arts, with local galleries and theaters nearby.

New England College is another option worth considering if you're interested in a Liberal Arts education. It offers approximately 50 bachelor's degree programs in a variety of fields. The college is also known for its low student-to-faculty ratio, which often translates to smaller class sizes and increased student-faculty interaction.

Finally, Plymouth State University offers a broad liberal arts curriculum set against the beautiful backdrop of the White Mountains. PSU also has a dedicated Honors Program for high-achieving students.

As always, it's not one-size-fits-all. It's important to delve deeper and see how these colleges align with your specific needs, career goals, and personal preferences regarding campus culture. For instance, do you prefer a rural or urban setting? What's the ideal class size for you? Speak to current students and alumni, consider a virtual or in-person tour, and take some time to understand the programs on offer. That will help you determine which institution is the best match for you.
