Certainly, leadership development is a significant focus at the United States Military Academy, also known as West Point. Their Officer Development System (ODS), aims to groom cadets into professional Army officers ready to lead in all situations.

There are four key aspects to the Military Program:

First, there's the academic coursework, where cadets will complete courses in military science, technology, history, physical education, and languages. The leadership theory taught here provides a foundation for the practical experiences elsewhere in the Military Program.

Secondly, there is Professional Military Ethic Education (PMEE), which aims to graduate leaders of character committed to the ideals of duty, honor, and country, and prepared for a profession of arms. This is where cadets learn to balance mission accomplishment against the welfare of their soldiers.

Thirdly, military science plays a critical role in their program. These courses provide an intellectual framework for your future experience as a commissioned officer, teaching you the specifics of military tactics, strategy, operations, and leadership.

Lastly, and arguably the most practical, are the military training and military leadership experiences. In the summer, cadets participate in a variety of military training activities including basic and advanced training, international military exchange programs, fellowships, and internships. Cadets also have ample opportunities to practice leadership skills by occupying various positions within the Corps of Cadets — a corporate-style organization of more than 4,400 members.
