Courses Available at West Point Military Academy

I'm interested in what kind of courses I would take if I got into West Point. Are there specific classes that focus on military training, or does it have a variety of academic subjects to choose from?

At the United States Military Academy at West Point, your curriculum will be a blend of military training, physical education, and a broad swath of academic subjects. All students, who are referred to as "cadets," while at West Point, continue their physical and military training alongside their studies, and such training forms an integral part of the cadet experience.

In terms of academics, West Point offers a Bachelor's degree in Science and students have over 36 majors to choose from. They have a variety of fields of study available, including but not limited to Engineering, Science, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Foreign Languages.

Regardless of your major, all cadets are required to take some core curriculum classes in English, Mathematics, Sciences, Social Sciences, Foreign Languages, etc. This broad-based academic foundation aims to produce well-rounded officers capable of critical thinking and problem-solving.

Some courses are more directly relevant to military training, such as military science or leadership courses. Besides, practical military training occurs mostly during the summer months when cadets undergo various forms of field training.

So, while the military aspect is indeed a significant part of life at West Point, the academic course offerings are quite extensive. It is not all military science and leadership courses, but a wholesome mix of various traditional academic disciplines as well.
