What are the best art schools in Texas?

I'm a high school junior interested in pursuing a degree in art and I'm wondering which schools in Texas are known for their strong art programs. Any suggestions or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

When it comes to strong art programs in Texas, several institutions come to mind. Each of these schools are recognized both statewide and nationally for their commitment to the arts and offer a wide variety of disciplines within the field.

The University of Texas at Austin's College of Fine Arts provides comprehensive programs in disciplines such as Studio Art, Art History, Arts and Entertainment Technologies, and more. The university frequently lands on national rankings for art programs, and it's renowned for its faculty, resources, and networking opportunities.

Rice University in Houston is not traditionally known as an "art school" but has a robust art department and their Moody Center for the Arts is highly regarded. Their interdisciplinary approach to education allows students studying art to incorporate other academic elements into their creative process.

The University of Houston's School of Art is also a great option. The offerings range from graphic design to painting and drawing, to interdisciplinary practices, and more. They also focus on fostering a community that encourages creative growth, which can be a vital aspect of an art education.

Southern Methodist University in Dallas is known for its Meadows School of Arts, which ranks consistently high on various art program charts. They have a beautiful campus with state-of-art facilities that provide an excellent environment for budding artists.

Another excellent institution is the University of North Texas in Denton, notable for its College of Visual Arts and Design. When it comes to areas such as Fashion Design and Fiber Arts, UNT shines at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Lastly, Texas State University in San Marcos is known for a strong art department offering various art majors such as Communication Design, Studio Art, and Art Education.

These are just a few examples. I encourage you to visit the schools' websites or even the campuses themselves, if possible, to get a feel for the art departments and see which might be the best fit for you. Remember to look out for faculty, facilities, course content, alumni success, and opportunities for exhibitions or internships in choosing the right program. Good luck with your search!
