Admission process for foreign students at West Point Military Academy

I'm an international student interested in attending West Point. Can someone explain how the admissions process works for foreign students? Are there specific requirements or quotas?

Certainly! The U.S. Military Academy at West Point does admit international students, but the admissions process is slightly different from that of U.S. students.

First, you must receive an invitation to apply directly from West Point, which will be extended through the United States' Office of Defence Cooperation in a given country. These invitations are sent out around September, of the year before you would be starting at West Point.

Afterwards, like a domestic applicant, you'll need to complete a Candidate Questionnaire, undergo a medical examination, pass the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA), and submit an English language test score - this last requirement is unique to international applicants. The CFA is a physical fitness assessment that includes tests such as push-ups, pull-ups, and a one-mile run. For English proficiency, TOEFL scores are typically recommended.

While West Point doesn't publish minimum test score requirements, applicants should strive for top scores as admission is highly competitive. Also, international applicants should be under 23 years of age and unmarried with no legal obligation to support a child or other individuals.

It's important to note that each year, West Point is authorized to have up to 60 international cadets enrolled, but this doesn't mean 60 are admitted each year. The number of international students accepted can vary.

Lastly, be mindful that unlike their American counterparts, international students are not commissioned in the U.S. Army upon graduation. They are expected to serve in the forces of their home countries.

Given the complexity and time-sensitive nature of this process, contacting West Point's admissions office directly may be beneficial as they can provide the most accurate and up-to-date information.
