How hard is it to get into West Point Military Academy?

I'm thinking about applying to West Point, and I’ve heard it's really competitive. Can anyone share how difficult it is to gain admission? What are the key requirements and selection criteria?

Admission to the United States Military Academy at West Point is indeed highly competitive. It doesn't just involve the academic rigor typical of other selective colleges but also requires a nomination, usually from a member of Congress like your local representative or one of your state's U.S. senators. Only about 10% of applicants are admitted each year.

In terms of academic credentials, West Point looks for strong candidates who demonstrate excellence in rigorous courses. Applicants typically have strong grades and impressive standardized test scores.

However, West Point doesn't only consider academics. Physical fitness is also a major consideration because cadets are expected to meet high physical standards. You’ll need to pass the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA), which includes basketball throw, pull-ups/flexed arm hang, shuttle run, modified sit-ups, push-ups, and a one-mile run.

You also need to be in good medical condition. West Point requires applicants to take a Department of Defense Medical Evaluation Review Board exam to assess physical and medical ability to perform military duties.
