What majors can you choose at West Point?

Exploring my future options, I'm interested in knowing what majors the United States Military Academy at West Point offers. Are there unique programs specifically tailored to military careers?

The United States Military Academy at West Point offers an exciting array of major options. They have a strong variety of more traditional academic fields, but they're also uniquely positioned to provide some majors that directly relate to military service.

West Point offers 36 majors spanning the natural sciences, social sciences, engineering, and humanities. Here are just a few: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Philosophy, History, and English.

That said, there are a few majors that stand out as particularly unique to West Point and military academy education. For instance, Defense and Strategic Studies is a major focus on the complexities of national security policy, military strategy, and the contemporary global security environment.

Similarly, the Systems Engineering (Management) major prepares cadets for the acquisition and procurement fields within the Army, essential roles for maintaining a well-equipped force. There's also the Nuclear Engineering program which, though not unheard of in civilian institutions, tends to have a particular relevance at military academies.

The academy also provides a focused Military Art and Science minor that is designed to complement any major you choose. This multidisciplinary minor includes courses in subjects such as history, sociology, political science, geography, art, music, and architecture.
