Which roles within the military are known for good pay?

I'm considering enlisting but would like to know which jobs in the military offer the best pay. Are there particular MOS (Military Occupational Specialties) that veterans recommend for financial stability?

While it's commendable that you're considering enlisting, it's essential to note that everyone in the U.S. military, regardless of their job or MOS, begins with the same base pay rate. This rate is determined by the individual's rank and the amount of time they've been in service. All soldiers, regardless of their role, can also receive allowances for housing, subsistence, cost of living (if stationed in high cost areas), and more.

However, there can be differences in special pay based on your occupational specialty or additional duties. Here are a few examples:

1. Special Duty Pay: This can entail roles like drill sergeants, recruiters, or Special Forces.

2. Language Proficiency: Linguists or other personnel proficient in certain languages may receive special pay.

3. Hazardous Duty Incentive Pay (HDIP): This is provided for roles involving flight decks, demolitions, parachuting, etc.

4. Medical and Dental officers, due to their specialized skillsets, also receive additional pay.

5. Pilots or Aircrew: They get Aviation Career Incentive Pay.

6. Nuclear-trained Naval Officers also receive special incentive pay.

In addition to these, various reenlistment bonuses and incentives are also provided, which can depend on your MOS. However, it’s important to consider your interests and skills when selecting your MOS, not just the potential for additional compensation. Working in a role that matches your interests and skills will likely result in a more successful and satisfying military experience. After leaving the military, this experience can also translate into well-paying careers. For example, veterans with technical and leadership skills are often sought after in the private sector.
