Are there good job opportunities in Guam for military spouses?

I'm thinking about moving to Guam with my spouse, who is in the military. I'm interested in learning about job prospects for military spouses there. Any advice or personal experiences would be super helpful!

It's wonderful that you're considering relocating to Guam! When it comes to job opportunities for military spouses, a few avenues often stand out.

Firstly, federal government jobs are quite feasible for military spouses in Guam. There are several federal agencies on the island, including the Department of Defense, Department of Navy, and the Department of Veteran Affairs, to name a few, that offer job opportunities. Since you're a military spouse, you may be eligible for hiring preferences under the Military Spouse Preference program, which aims to support military families by giving preference to military spouses in Department of Defense job openings.

Secondly, teaching or other roles in education might represent good opportunities since there are numerous public, private, and Department of Defense Education Activity schools on the island. If you're interested in education, but not in classroom teaching, consider roles like educational programming development or administration.

If you're in health professions or social service careers, you might find opportunities at Naval Hospital Guam, which is a full-service hospital that is often hiring medical professionals and support staff.

For those involved in retail or in the service industry, positions may also be available at local businesses or at service locations on the base, such as Base Exchange (BX) or Commissary.

Lastly, one option many military spouses opt for is remote work. Remote jobs allow you to work regardless of where you're stationed, providing flexibility and continuity in your career.

Remember to utilize resources designed to help military families with employment, such as the Employment Readiness Program (ERP) and Military OneSource. The Career One Stop is another helpful source that offers resources specifically for military spouses. As with any move, it's recommended to begin your job search and networking efforts ahead of time to familiarize yourself with the local job market.

Best of luck with your move and career endeavor in Guam!
