Applying as an international student to West Point Academy?

I'm an international student considering applying to West Point Academy. Does anyone have any insights on the admissions process for international students? Are there specific requirements or steps different from domestic applicants?

Absolutely! US Military Academy at West Point does accept international students, albeit the application process is slightly different compared to domestic applicants.

First things first, invitations to apply must come from your country's government, not from West Point nor from you personally. You see, each year, only 60 foreign students are admitted to West Point. These slots are shared among countries that have a scholarship program for students to study in the United States, so it's selective.

As an international student, you don't need to take the CFA (Candidate Fitness Assessment), but must meet medical and physical standards similar to U.S. applicants. Also, the SAT or ACT is not required, but if you have taken them, it's good to share your scores. Remember, your government will hold its own rigorous selection process inclining towards leadership and academic competence.

In terms of English proficiency, while there's no official minimum, they recommend proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking. There isn't a TOEFL requirement, but if taken, the results can be provided as additional information to strengthen your application.

Just to clarify, once accepted, most international cadets are required to return to serve in their country's armed forces after graduation, as per their country's policy. And oh, international students do not pay for tuition at West Point. Instead, costs are typically borne by their country's government.

Good luck with the application! It's an exciting endeavor and West Point's program is top-notch.
