What's Included in the West Point Academy Physical Fitness Test?

I'm curious about the components of the physical fitness test at West Point Academy. What exercises and benchmarks are included? I'm trying to figure out how I can best prepare. Any tips from those who've tried it?

The West Point physical fitness test is officially known as the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) and is a crucial part of the admissions process. It consists of six types of physical assessments:

1. Basketball throw: This tests your upper body strength and coordination. You'll make an overhead throw from a kneeling position.

2. Pull-ups: Here, you're looking at upper body strength and endurance. The score is based on the number of correct repetitions you are able to execute.

3. Shuttle run: This tests your agility and speed. It's a back and forth, short distance run.

4. Modified sit-ups (crunches): These measure abdominal strength and endurance. They tally the number of correct sit-ups you can do in two minutes.

5. Push-ups: This checks out upper body strength and endurance with the tally for push-ups done correctly in two minutes.

6. One-mile run: This is all about aerobic fitness, as you're anticipated to run a mile as quickly as you can.

As for preparation, consistency is key. Make sure to gradually build your strength and endurance for the pull-ups, crunches, and push-ups, and also practice pacing yourself effectively for the shuttle run and the one-mile run.

For the basketball throw, it's not just about brute strength; the technique is important too. So you might benefit from working with a coach or trainer who can help you optimize your throw.

Also, don’t forget to do stretching exercises as part of your routine to stay flexible and avoid injuries. Good luck with your preparations!
