What Degrees Can You Earn at West Point Military Academy?

Thinking about applying to West Point, but I'm not sure what kind of degrees they offer. Can you earn a 'regular' college degree there, or is it more focused on military disciplines?

West Point Military Academy, or the United States Military Academy (USMA) as it's officially known, offers Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees to all its graduates. This degree is multidisciplinary, meaning students will engage in a mix of courses across liberal arts and sciences, along with taking courses about military leadership and strategies.

West Point offers more than 36 academic majors. You can choose to major in a variety of subjects ranging from the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, and computer sciences. For example, you might choose to major in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, History, International Relations, or Physics, among others.

Hence, while West Point does indeed concentrate heavily on military disciplines and leadership development, it also provides a very strong traditional academic foundation. It's designed to produce well-rounded leaders who are equipped not only with technical knowledge but also with critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Note that regardless of their major, all West Point cadets graduate with a commission as a second lieutenant in the Army and serve for at least five years of active duty and three years in the reserves. So while you'll certainly get a robust academic and 'regular' college experience, you should also be prepared for and committed to the military obligations that come with a West Point education.
