AP Environmental Science Course Perception

I've been hearing some mixed opinions on APES and need some clarity. Does taking AP Environmental Science look bad or is it considered an 'easy' AP by admissions officers? Keen on it for next year but I don't want it to seem like I'm taking the easy route.

The perception of AP courses can vary, but it's important to remember that any AP class, including AP Environmental Science (APES), symbolizes a commitment to a challenging curriculum. It is true that some students and schools may view APES as less rigorous compared to other AP science courses like Chemistry or Physics. However, this doesn't devalue the class or its importance in the context of your overall schedule and interests.

When admissions officers see APES on your transcript, they consider the context of your entire course load. If you're balancing APES with other demanding classes, it shows that you are still challenging yourself. Furthermore, if environmental science aligns with your intended major or interests, it strengthens the case for taking it. For example, if you plan to study sustainability or environmental science in college, APES could be seen as a firm foundation for your future studies.

Ultimately, the most important factor is that you are consistent in taking rigorous courses throughout high school. One AP class, taken in isolation, will not make or break your transcript.
