What are some job programs available for military veterans?

Thinking about a future in the military, but I wonder what kind of support exists for veterans entering the job market. Are there specific programs or resources designed to help veterans find employment once they leave military service?

Absolutely, there are a lot of specific resources and programs available to support veterans transitioning to the civilian job market.

One of the most comprehensive ones is the Veteran's Employment and Training Service (VETS) operated by the U.S. Department of Labor. This program provides resources for employment, career counseling, and job training programs customized to the veterans' skills and experiences.

Additionally, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management runs the Veterans' Preference program which gives eligible veterans preference in appointment over many other applicants for federal jobs.

There's also a program called the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) — also known as VetSuccess — which provides services to eligible service members and veterans with service-connected disabilities to help them prepare for, obtain, and maintain suitable employment.

GoodJobs funded by the Walmart Foundation is another initiative that assists military veterans and their families with job training, financial assistance, and other resources needed to achieve economic stability.

Lastly, many private companies have initiatives specifically aimed at hiring veterans, such as Amazon's Military Leaders Program which is designed to provide ex-military officers with a transition into a leadership role within the company.

Keep in mind that these are just some of the available employment programs for veterans. It's recommended to reach out to your local Veteran's Affairs office or a military transition assistance program to learn more about what's available for your specific situation.
