What Are the SAT Score Requirements for the Naval Academy?

I'm interested in attending the Naval Academy and want to understand what SAT scores I should aim for. Can anyone share some insights on the typical range or minimum scores that are competitive for admission?

The U.S. Naval Academy, like most institutions, does not have a strict SAT score requirement. However, according to the Naval Academy's Class of 2024 profile, the middle 50% SAT score range for admitted students was:

- Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: 630-760

- Math: 620-750

This suggests that competitive applicants tend to have SAT scores in these ranges or higher. It's important to keep in mind, though, that the Naval Academy places a significant emphasis on athletic ability, leadership potential, extracurricular involvement, and physical fitness, in addition to academic achievement.

So, while a strong SAT score can certainly bolster your application, it's one piece of a much larger portfolio. Successful applicants typically have demonstrated leadership, such as serving in student government, earning scouting awards, or leading a sports team, and have physical fitness as evidenced by athletic involvement.

Remember too that the admissions process also includes securing a nomination, a medical evaluation, and completing a physical fitness assessment. This holistic review process means that lower SAT scores may be offset by strength in these other areas.

Nevertheless, aiming for an SAT score within or above the provided range will put you in a competitive standing academically. Consider taking SAT prep courses, doing practice problems, and taking full-length practice tests to prepare. Keep in mind starting in spring 2024 the SAT will be fully digital with a slightly different structure:

- Reading and Writing: two 32-minute modules, to complete 54 questions.

- Math: two 35-minute modules, to complete 44 questions.

Wishing you the best of luck with your Naval Academy ambitions!
