How does the Air Force Military Spouse Job Program work?

I heard there's a job program for military spouses in the Air Force, and I'm wondering how it operates. Can someone explain how this program helps spouses find employment and what kind of jobs might be available?

The Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) has created the Spouse Employment Program to support spouses of active duty Airmen.

The Spouse Employment Program is designed to provide tuition assistance for licensure, certification, and education that can result in sustainable employment. The goal of the program is to increase the employability of Air Force spouses and help reduce the high unemployment rate faced by military spouses, who often struggle to find stable employment due to frequent relocations.

The program typically covers costs associated with post-secondary education, including tuition and books. What's important is that the money doesn't have to be repaid—it's not a loan, but rather a grant.

This program focuses on training for portable and in-demand careers. These are jobs that can be done from almost anywhere and have a high demand for employees. This can include fields such as healthcare, education, business administration, information technology, and others.

To apply for this program, spouses must first fill out the AFAS application form, available on the AFAS website. It's recommended to apply as early as possible, as funding is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications include identifying the certification or licensure program one which to undertake, the costs associated, and evidence of enrollment or acceptance into the program.

It's a fantastic initiative from the AFAS and proves to be very beneficial to many Air Force spouses who struggle with the instability of their employment due to their partner's service.
