Life at the academy is rigorous and academically challenging, regardless of gender. All students, known as midshipmen, go through the same physically demanding program with an academic-heavy STEM curriculum, roughly 4 years of military training, and intense moral development. Women are not treated differently from men in any sphere of the academy, thus providing an equal and competitive environment for personal growth.

Naval Academy women have grown in ranks among the Brigade of Midshipmen and they have a few leadership positions among them. This speaks to the promising opportunities available to women for leadership training and career advancement in the US Navy.

Camaraderie is a very crucial aspect of the academy, and sisterhood among the women is strong.
