Are there finance jobs in the military?

I'm considering a future in finance and curious if the military offers any roles related to financial management or budgeting. Does anyone know what options are out there?

Yes, there are definitely finance jobs within the military! Several branches of the U.S. military have what are known as Financial Management or Financial Officer roles. They're tasked with the management and execution of fiscal laws, financial management functions, and maintaining financial records, just to name a few duties.

In the Army, for instance, the finance officer is a role that provides both operational and money management support. Whereas, the Air Force has Financial Management Officers who are responsible for cost analysis, economic analysis, and management analysis functions.

The Navy also has similar positions, such as Supply Officers, who are responsible for financial management and logistical support.

In order to get into these roles, you'd typically need to start as an officer, which requires a Bachelor degree. Some of these positions might require you to major in finance, business, economics, or a related field, while others may not, but having relevant coursework under your belt will surely be beneficial in a finance-related role.

Please do remember that the military is a commitment and it's not a path to be taken lightly. While it can provide great career training and benefits, it also requires dedication, potential relocation, and sometimes deployment. You should evaluate whether this is a suitable career path for you, not only based on your interest in finance, but also in terms of your personal goals and lifestyle.
