Career Paths: Civilian Jobs for Military Police Veterans

For those who've served as military police, what civilian jobs make use of that experience? I'm starting to plan my post-military career and could use advice on where the skills from military police service translate well.

Many former military police members find that their skills and experiences transfer well to civilian jobs. Here are a few fields that might be a great fit:

1. Law Enforcement: This is a pretty seamless transition, as many of the skills you acquired as a military police officer can apply directly to civilian law enforcement. This includes local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Your experience with investigations, detainments, enforcement of rules, etc., can certainly make you an attractive candidate.

2. Security Services: Many private security firms value the discipline, training, and skills of former military personnel. In this field, you could work as a private security guard, protective services, or in threat response.

3. Corporate Security or Risk Management: Many corporations have internal security teams responsible for physical security, fraud prevention, and risk management. Your background as a military police officer can be very valuable in these areas, especially if combined with some business skills or education.

4. Private Investigation: Your investigative skills as a military police officer could lend themselves well to a career as a private investigator.

5. Homeland Security roles: Many roles within the Department of Homeland Security value the skills and experience of military police. Jobs vary from Border Patrol to Transportation Security Administration.
