What's the Naval Academy campus like?

I've heard a lot about the Naval Academy, but I'm curious about its campus. How big is it, and what are some must-see spots if I'm interested in applying?

The United States Naval Academy campus, also known as "The Yard," is quite unique and definitely worth a visit if you're considering attending the academy. It's situated on 338 acres in Annapolis, Maryland, right by the beautiful Severn River.

The campus's architectural style is classically American, with many buildings having a distinct Beaux-Arts and neoclassical design. Some of the most notable places on campus include:

1. 'Bancroft Hall': This massive structure is the single largest dormitory in the world. It houses all midshipmen, approximately 4,000, and contains various facilities such as a chapel, post office, barbershop, and more.

2. 'The Academy Chapel': It's a historic landmark and its architecture is quite impressive. It's also home to the Naval Academy Men's and Women's Glee Clubs.

3. 'The Naval Academy Museum': This museum offers a deep dive into naval history and houses many naval artifacts, including past midshipmen's personal effects, war memorabilia, and models of previous U.S. Navy ships.

4. 'Tecumseh Court': A central courtyard where plebes (first-year midshipmen) study, and where major formations are held. At its center stands the bronze bust of Tecumseh, who is treated as a friendly spirit, and also the "god of 2.0" - the passing grade point at USNA.

5. 'Michelson Hall': Named after Albert A. Michelson, the first American scientist to win a Nobel Prize, this facility is home to the physics and chemistry departments and symbolizes the Academy's commitment to STEM education.

Also, don't forget to walk by 'Stribling Walk', the Academy's main walkway, which culminates at the scenic sea wall. Here, you can relax and take in the beautiful views of the Severn River.

Keep in mind, the Naval Academy is a secure military installation, so you will need to have a government-issued ID to enter and must adhere to the visitation guidelines. Be sure to check the official website for the latest information for visitors and prospective midshipmen.
