What Happens if You are Waitlisted at the Naval Academy?

I got waitlisted at the Naval Academy and it's stressing me out a bit. What should I be doing during this time, and what are the chances of moving off the waitlist?

Being waitlisted certainly adds a layer of uncertainty, but try not to stress too much. When you're waitlisted, it means that the Naval Academy has perceived potential in you but currently does not have a seat for you in its incoming class. However, there's still a chance for admission if spots open up later, for instance, if accepted students decline their offers.

It's difficult to predict your chances of moving off the waitlist because it depends on factors beyond your control, such as how many students accept their offers and how many students the Naval Academy decides to admit from the waitlist.

In the meantime, it's essential to have backup plans. If you have received acceptance from other colleges or service academies, consider those options and prepare as though you'll be attending one of them. Also, make sure to accept a spot in another institution by the May 1st deadline to secure your college education for the coming year.

You may consider writing a letter to the Naval Academy expressing your continued interest in attending, any notable achievements since your application, or any changes in your circumstances. However, always ensure your communication is respectful and professional. Keep in mind, it's important not to bombard the admissions office with calls or emails, as this can potentially have a negative impact.

Remember, being waitlisted is not a rejection, and students have been admitted off the waitlist before. Regardless of the outcome, you should be proud of your achievements thus far and know that there are many paths to a successful future.
