Do Naval Academy Graduates Have a Service Commitment?

If you attend the Naval Academy, are you required to serve in the military after graduation? I'm trying to understand the level of commitment expected if I choose this path.

Absolutely, there is indeed a service commitment after graduation from the United States Naval Academy. After completing your four years of education at the academy, you are required to serve at least five years of active duty in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps, depending on your chosen service assignment.

The specific service assignment you receive can affect the length of your commitment. For example, those who are selected for Naval Aviator or Naval Flight Officer duties typically have longer commitments due to their extensive training period.

It's worth noting that even though there is a mandatory service commitment, the Naval Academy is considered to provide among the highest quality education and leadership training available. The commitment is definitely a responsibility to consider, but also remember that by serving, you're gaining experience, leadership skills, and opportunities for further advancement within the military. Ensure you're ready to make this commitment before you decide to attend the Naval Academy.
