What's the cost to attend a Naval Academy prep school?

I've been considering applying to a Naval Academy prep school, but I'm a bit worried about tuition and other costs associated with it. Can someone break down what the financial expectations are when attending one of these prep schools?

Sure, happy to help you understand this.

The US Naval Academy Preparatory School, also known as NAPS, is a one-year program designed to prepare candidates for the US Naval Academy. Importantly, students do not directly apply to NAPS. Instead, the US Naval Academy Admissions Board nominates certain individuals whose applications show promise but might need further academic development.

The good news is, as part of your commitment to the Navy, the full cost of NAPS, including tuition, room and board, medical and dental care, is covered. In addition, you'll receive a monthly stipend for textbooks, uniforms, and personal items.

However, attending NAPS requires a commitment to serve in the Navy following graduation. It's important to understand this commitment and the lifestyle changes it may bring. After both NAPS and the Naval Academy, you are expected to serve at least five years of active duty service.

In summary, while monetary costs at a Naval Academy prep school like NAPS are completely covered, it does come with a significant service obligation that should be carefully considered.
