Do you need ACT and SAT scores for the Naval Academy?

I'm looking into applying to the Naval Academy and am curious if ACT or SAT scores are still required. Can someone clarify if they're a necessary part of the application?

Yes, as of the 2024-2025 application cycle, the United States Naval Academy, like other federal service academies, still requires SAT or ACT scores as part of its admissions process. This requirement distinguishes service academies from many other institutions of higher education, which have shifted to test-optional policies in recent years.

It's important to note, the Naval Academy SuperScores, meaning they will consider your highest section scores across all test dates. For the ACT, they will SuperScore among English, Math, Reading, and Science sections, and for the SAT, they will SuperScore among the Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing sections.

While the Naval Academy does not publish a minimum score requirement, successful candidates usually have scores above the national average. According to the Naval Academy's class profile, the middle 50% of SAT scores is typically around 1250-1510, and for the ACT, it's generally around 27-34.

Keep in mind that while standardized test scores are a critical component of the application, the Naval Academy also considers other factors like academic performance, physical fitness, leadership experiences, and character. So, focus on building a well-rounded application that showcases all these aspects. Good luck with your application!
