Any job opportunities for active military service members preparing to transition?

I'm currently serving and considering transitioning to civilian life. What are some job opportunities or programs that help military service members like me find work after leaving the service?

One potential route to consider is through federal government careers. Due to the Veterans Preference Act, many federal jobs give special preference to veterans, putting you at an advantage when applying.

You could also consider leveraging your military skills in the private sector. Companies such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and other defense contractors often hire veterans due their experience with military technology and protocols.

There are also several programs in place to help veterans transition into civilian jobs:

1. The DoD SkillBridge Program is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable civilian work experience during your last 180 days of service. Basically, you can intern with a civilian company while still being paid by the military.

2. The Department of Labor’s Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS) is also designed to help veterans transition. They offer resources to guide in your job search and also conduct investigations if you face problems in your employment due to your veteran status.

3. Onward to Opportunity (O2O) is a free career training program that combines classroom instruction and online coursework in various career fields.

4. The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) offers a career center with job listings, resume reviews, and networking advice.

5. Lastly, American Corporate Partners (ACP) connects veterans with mentors in a range of industries, who can provide career advice and networking opportunities.

Remember, your skills and experiences from the military have prepared you for a wide range of careers. Don't limit yourself and be open to new opportunities and experiences.
