GPA to Get Into the Naval Academy

I'm aiming for the Naval Academy and was wondering what GPA I should target to be competitive. Does anyone know what kind of grades I should maintain during high school to increase my chances of acceptance?

For competitive apps like the Naval Academy, keeping your GPA above 3.75 is ideal. The average GPAs of admitted students are regularly posted, and they tend to be quite high. In the class of 2024, the average GPA was a 3.66.

Remember though, the Naval Academy doesn't just look at GPAs. They also consider course rigor and how you've challenged yourself academically. You should be taking the most challenging courses available at your high school: think along the lines of Honors, AP, and IB courses, if they're available.

In addition to your GPA, these applications usually place heavy weight on leadership qualities, athletism (since there are physical fitness assessments), and your character. The Naval Academy especially puts an emphasis on moral, physical, and mental excellence.

Though academics is an essential part of the application, the Naval Academy is looking for more well-rounded individuals who can handle the strict lifestyle and the requirements of military service. Also, make sure to prepare for the Candidate Fitness Assessment and consider joining activities in your school that may show demonstrated interest in the Naval Academy (like JROTC).

Even if your GPA isn't quite as high as you'd like, these other parts of your application (your essays, recommendation letters, extracurriculars) can really give you a boost. Just keep in mind that ultimately, the Naval Academy is also looking for students who are dedicated to service, so keep that aspect in view as you prepare your application.
