What's the role of a military janitor?

I'm considering joining the military and heard there are janitorial positions available. Can anyone explain what the role of a military janitor involves and how it might differ from similar civilian jobs? Any insights would be helpful!

A military janitor, also often referred to as a custodial worker or facilities maintenance specialist, plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of military facilities. This could include barracks, offices, mess halls, training facilities, or any other military buildings. The role is similar to that of civilian janitors and includes tasks such as sweeping and mopping floors, disposing of trash, cleaning windows and restrooms, performing minor repairs, and reporting any major maintenance needs.

However, there are a few key differences. In the military environment, you might find yourself cleaning particular military-specific areas, like airplane hangars, tanks, or even ships. Additionally, maintaining the highest sanitary standards can have more direct implications on health and operations in a military context. Everybody on a military base has a part to play in its smooth running, and that's equally true for custodial workers.

Another aspect to consider is deployment. Depending on the branch of the military you are in, you may be required to perform your duties in a variety of different environments and locations around the world, some of which may be active conflict zones.
