Military Careers Suitable for Foreigners with Paralegal Skills?

I'm a foreign national with paralegal experience looking to join the military. Does anyone know if there are military roles that could make use of my skills as a paralegal?

Yes, there's definitely opportunities in the United States military for individuals with paralegal skills. A common one is the role of a paralegal specialist. These individuals often work as part of the Army's Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps, where they provide legal and administrative support in areas like family law, international law, contract law, civil/administrative law, and more. Duties could include preparing legal documents, researching precedents, organizing case files, and providing support in legal proceedings.

That said, it's important to bear in mind that non-citizens must meet certain requirements to join the U.S. military. You'll need to have a Permanent Resident Card (Green Card), be able to speak, write, and read English fluently, and you'll also need to currently live in the U.S. Additionally, training for these roles will typically require a security screening.

It's also important to know that not every legal role is open to non-citizens. Officer positions often require citizenship, however, opportunities for enlisted jobs might be accessible.

I would strongly recommend contacting a recruiter from the branch of the military you're interested in for further information. They'll be able to give you an insight into current opportunities and help to answer any questions you have about the procedure for non-citizens in joining the U.S. military.
