Military Jobs for Women Available in India

I'm curious about military job opportunities for women in India. What roles are women allowed to serve in within the Indian Armed Forces? Are there specific requirements or restrictions to be aware of?

In India, both men and women can choose to serve in the Indian Armed Forces, which includes the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy. Over the past few years, the number of roles available to women has increased significantly.

In the Indian Army, women have been commissioned as officers in fields like engineering, legal, education, signals, and intelligence. Permanent commission for women in the Indian Army has also been approved, allowing women to serve in ten branches.

In the Indian Air Force, women can serve as officers in all branches except for ground duties. They can be pilots, navigators, and aeronautical engineers, among others. The IAF was actually the first branch of the military in India to commission women into combat roles.

In the Indian Navy, women serve in various roles like education, law, naval architecture, etc. As of 2020, the Indian Navy has also started deploying women on warships, a notable milestone.

Generally, the requirements for these roles would be similar to their male counterparts. This includes passing relevant exams, meeting physical fitness criteria, and completing the necessary training.

However, there are still some areas where women's service is restricted. For example, women are not yet allowed in combat roles in the Indian Army (with the exception of some positions in the Air Force), and they can't serve in submarines in the Navy.

With time, these boundaries are being relentlessly challenged and expanded. Therefore, if you're considering a career in the Indian Armed Forces, I encourage you to keep updated with the latest information and talk to a military recruitment officer for the most accurate details.
