What military jobs offer certificate qualifications?

I'm interested in entering the military out of high school and want to know if there are specific military jobs that would allow me to earn any certificates. Do certain roles provide these opportunities, and how can they benefit my future career?

Absolutely, many roles in the military do allow you to gain certificate qualifications. These roles are usually centered around technical or vocational skills that can be highly transferable to civilian jobs.

For example, in the U.S. Army, the Computer/Detection Systems Repairer (94F) role offers a certificate in Electronics Technology. This role involves repairing computer hardware and software systems. Similarly, the Army's MOS 25B - Information Technology Specialist earns certificates from CompTIA, such as A+, Network+, and Security+, which are very well-respected in the field.

In the Navy, one can earn valuable certifications in roles such as Aviation Maintenance Administrationman, Sonar Technician, or Information System Technician. Alternatively, in the Air Force, careers in cyber transport systems or cyber systems operations provide solid footing for a career in the IT industry, with certifications ranging from Security+, Network+, and many more.

The Coast Guard also offers certifications. For instance, as a Marine Science Technician, you can earn Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification.

These certifications often serve two purposes. First, they validate your skills in your respective military roles. Second, these are highly sought after in many civilian industries, significantly enhancing your employability after your service.

To maximize your potential, be sure to capitalize on the military's tuition assistance programs. These can help you cover the costs of certification exams, giving you a tremendous advantage when you transition to civilian life.
